A comparative study of the policies to combat football hooliganism in England and the Netherlands (z.j.)

Auteur(s): Finbar Mc Grath

Following a brief introduction of the nature and severity of the hooligan problem, Section One gives a fairly concise treatment of the problem, tracing its historical development in both countries, its actual ‘core roots’, along with relevant factors which are believed to be influential in creating the problem. Sections Three and Four examine the process of formulating and implementing the policies in England and the Netherlands, looking at the actors involved, their relationships, the actual policies and the initiated consequences of the policies. Section Five is an analysis of the policies, where is tried to measure the impact the policies have made on the game in the respective countries. Data for arrests and attendances is used to try to show this impact, and finally the future for the game is discussed.
