A social history of leisure since 1600 (1990)
Among the ironies of contemporary life is the ambiguity many feel about leisure. Leisure, like work, is among the most valueladen of concepts. In the midst of so much disagreement about contemporary leisure, what can the historian contribute to the discussion? This book may not resolve the ambiguity that many feel about contemporary leisure, but the author hopes that it will clarify some of the issues.
