Leisure and work
leisure and recreation studies 2
Since the original edition of ‘The Future of Work and Leisure’ was published in 1971, there has been a shift in our society away from work – at least in the sense of employment opportunities – and towards leisure. Dr Parker’s new book ‘Leisure and Work’ is a completely revised and updated version of the earlier work, presenting his own research findings but also discussing and evaluating much other published material on the subject that has appeared in the last twelve years. This book is a study of the relationship between people at work and people at play. It has both theoretical and practical aims: to contribute to the development of sociological theory, including evaluating alternative views of man, society and social change, and to contribute to the solution of problems of work and leisure, by attempting to predict the probable outcome of alternative social policies.
