Promoting physical activity, active play and sport for pre-school and school-age children in family, pre-school, school and community settings (2009)

NICE public health guidance

The Department of Health (DH) asked the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE or the Institute) to produce public health guidance on physical activity, play and sport for pre-school and school-age children in family, pre-school, school and community settings. The guidance is for NHS and other professionals who have a direct or indirect role in – and responsibility for – promoting physical activity for children. This includes those with public health as part of their remit working within the NHS, education, local authorities and the wider public, private, voluntary and community sectors. It may also be of interest to parents, grandparents and, other carers (including professional carers), children and young people and other members of the public. The recommendations are for children and young people up to the age of 18 years, with a specific focus on those aged 7 and under, girls aged 11 to 18 and their families.
