Start active, stay active (2011)

a report on physical activity for health from the four home countries' Chief Medical Officers

These guidelines are issued by the four Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. They draw on global evidence for the health benefits people can achieve by taking regular physical activity throughout their lives. This report emphasises for the first time the importance of physical activity for people of all ages.

The age groups covered in this report are:

  • early years (under 5s);
  • children and young people (5-18 years);
  • adults (19-64 years);
  • older adults (65+ years).
