The playleader's handbook (1976)

Auteur(s): Bernard McGovern

Playleadership schemes are developing fast throughout the country. The idea that the recreation of our youngsters concerns us all has made its impact. In this, his second book, Bernard McGovern, Games Organizer for the London Borough of Lewisham, considers young people now thinking of making playleadership their career. An ardent enthusiast himself, he is not blind to difficulties, and gives a critical assessment of the qualities a playleader will need. There is a wealth of information in this handbook, making it invaluable both for the trainee and the fully trained leader. Bernard McGovern is up to date not only on sports and games but also on every type of activity a group might follow. He has recipes for cooking in the open, and he knows about swimming supervision and May Queen exhibitions. He is equally at home discussing the finer points of five-a-side football or improvising with paper and string. He describes an infinite variety of games and manages to combine common sense with imagination.
